Telecom Operators in India Providing Free Calls, Data and Other Services To Flood-Hit Kerala Users


From past couple of weeks, the huge rainfall in Kerala has bought the floods across the state along which devastated the lifeline of Kerala people. Besides this, a large number of people approx 300 results in death and more than lakhs people has displaced due to this heavy downpour. The state government has issued the red alert across the boundaries and varies NGO’s, social activist and institutions came down to help the people, setup 2000 reliefs camp. Now Search Engine Giant Google has come down and tied up with the operators in order to help out the state and their people.

Google is helping out in a leading manner allowing the android users to share their location even in the offline mode also, so the rescuers can find them. Apart from this giant, the telecom operators like Airtel, Vodafone, Jio and Idea are helping in a broad way by providing the free data and calls facilities for the prepaid users. And for the postpaid users, companies have laid out the extension dates for bill payment and uninterrupted services to the users.

Kerala Floods: Google Provided ‘Plus Sign’ Location Services  

The Google has added special services in its google maps for the flood-hit Kerala. The users of google map on Android smartphones and tablets now able to share their locations by dropping the plus sign/code over the location for the rescuers, online as well as offline. Users just need to zoom to their location, hold on the location to drop the pin on the google maps. Thus, the address will be added at the bottom and anybody (including rescuers) can be able to find. Further, to share it in offline mode, the users can send the location via SMS or able to make the calls. While to share it in online mode, just type Plus code or city name in the google maps search box to locate.

Kerala Floods: Airtel Offers Free Talktime and Data To Prepaid Users

After the natural disaster in Kerala, the Airtel is offering the free talk time facility to its prepaid subscribers with the auto-approval option, later will be debited back. Apart from this Airtel is also offering 1GB data with the validity of one week. For Postpaid customers, the Airtel is offering the extended bill dates to the payment along with the uninterrupted services for the subscribers.

Additionally, Airtel mentioned that they will be going to set up the six VTAS services centre across the affected flood-prone area. People of Kerala will be able to use the free WIFI and calling sort of services without any charges. Moreover, Airtel also setting up 30 stores around the cities, where people can charge up their phones, call their friends and family members. The cities will be covered-Thrissur, Calicut, Malappuram, Kannur, Kottayam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Ernakulam.

The Vodafone operator is helping out the Kerala people in a quite similar manner as of airtel. The users will be getting the Rs30 talk time and 1GB of mobile data. To activate the free services users have to send the simple message with CREDIT to 144 or directly dial  *130*1#. Vodafone also made sure that its users will get the interrupted services across the community and extension timeframe for bill payment.

Jio has come up unrivalled offers for the subscribers of Kerala. The operator offered the unlimited calling and mobile data services for complete one week and other than this currently available plans also given free unlimited calling with VOLTE, SMS and data benefits services.

Idea offering emergency credit talk time to the users of Rs 10. Customers have to Dial *150*150# from their phone to avail this service. Apart from this users will be credited with 1GB of mobile data for one week, benefits will automatically be credited to the user’s account. The idea mentioned even also to provide the uninterrupted services to the postpaid users has strung out the bill payment options. Prepaid users whose recharge validity are expiring nearby company has increased the validity dates by two days. The further company is giving also the facility to recharge the phones in their stores.

Simultaneously, the state-owned BSNL provided the relief for those who ever impacted by the floods of Kerala in the form of free calls for bsnl and non-bsnl users up to 20 minutes. They added the free SMS and data services for the customers residing in Kerala, next up to 7 days.

The unprecedented rains in the state have created the havoc situation, more than 3.14 lakh people have been a relief and taken to the shelters. Besides this NDRF(national disaster relief force) is working around the clock with the local administrative bodies to save the lives of the Kerala people.
